If you have unfortunately been made redundant, please do bear in mind some of the following things:-

- Redundancy is difficult not only for you, but for the employer who has made the difficult decision to go ahead with redundancy.
- Other people in the company will also be feeling it whether they are also being made redundant or not.
- It should not be taken personally.
- Ask questions so you understand what is going on and you know where you stand.
- Speak to professionals so you feel comfortable with the process and know what to expect.
- Think ahead and start searching for a new job straight away. You can start going for interviews whilst you are working your notice period.
- Your employer should also be active in helping you to find your next steps along with support and advice and access to career advisors.
- Think about contacting everyone in your network as it may lead to a new opportunity popping up.
- You will be compensated appropriately based on how long you have been working for the company, if over 2 years.
- You do have the right to appeal if you are not happy with their decision.
- If you are unable to locate a job right away, there will always be jobseeker allowance or income support available.
- You are not alone. Redundancies happen all of the time.
- It is stressful and traumatic but there are many resources to help you get back on track.
- Start be more careful with your spending and attempt to do some saving if possible.
- Try to think positively and that you will find a new job. There will be something else out there for you and it may in fact be a blessing in disguise.

- Reduced profits.
- Losses.
- Mergers and takeovers.
- Changing markets and technology.
- Requirements for different skills.
- Exchange rate changes.
- Poor management.
- Competition.
- Reshuffle in job roles/hierachy.
- Relocating to a different place.
