There are over 700 job boards in the UK alone, so how do you pick
a job board? It can be quite difficult, however, there are a few things
to look out for when looking into online recruitment and what may
work for you, may not necessarily work for others. At the end of the
day, you need to pick the job board that suits your market as well
as your needs and a job board that has the selection of candidates
that are directly targeted to you!

So, how to choose a job board? What job boards are available?
|
|
The Company
It is a good idea to find out about the company, its background, history,
trends and developments to see how it has over time changed and grown.
From this, you can judge how successful their future looks and whether
you want to put your faith and trust into them when advertising your
vacancies.

Statistics
Look out for and ask for some of the following statistics from the
job board:
· Page Impressions
· Unique Visitors
· Candidates registered
· Actively searchable CV's available
These figures should give you a judgement on the size of the job board
- although it is important to bear in mind that size does not always
matter and it is the quality of jobseekers and demographics that match
your requirements that is important. These figures are sometime exaggerated
and should not be a measure on their own.
|
|
Audits
Be careful not to be fooled by many job boards that are not audited
as this means they can exaggerate their figures without anyone knowing.
In order to be sure that a job board is truthful about the figures
it states, an ABCe audit accredits jobsites and ensures their figures
are reliable and valid.

NORAS
It may also be advisable to look at NORAS - the National Online Recruitment
Survey - the UK's leading source of independent and objective information
on online recruitment. It is conducted once per year and looks at
the demographics for a number of participating job boards. Not all
sites take part for various reasons, however you can use the results
to check the demographic users of the sites to see if they match the
requirements of your candidates.
However, if the job boards demographics do not exactly match the job
role you wish to advertise, this does not mean they cannot cater for
you. Once your job is online, the job board may help to actively push
that sector and demographic and if the job boards individual job details
pages get indexed by the search engines, you will not have a problem
with the job getting exposure online.

Previous Clients/Testimonials
If you can see other companies using the site that you know of then
this could be a positive sign. Do not take this as set in stone though
as if you see no Clients in your market sector advertising, it could
well be an advantage for you if you are the primary advertiser for
a particular market sector. Ultimately, it is the candidates using
the site that matters and if they match the type of jobs you are advertising.

Marketing / Advertising
If a job board is visible in the marketplace to jobseekers then you
will safely get your jobs seen too. Being an online business means
effective search engine optimisation is highly important in order
to appear in the free listings of search. Along side this, sponsored
advertising links in the search engines is just as important to increase
the jobsites exposure online and help your jobs get viewed. Just find
out where the jobsite advertises/markets itself in order to attract
new jobseekers and this will help you to decide if the job board can
help you.
